What is a ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to a vehicle’s surfaces to create a durable, transparent protective layer. Once cured, it chemically bonds with the surface, forming a hydrophobic (water-repelling) barrier that shields against UV rays, oxidation, road salts, bird droppings, and light scratches. Unlike waxes or sealants that wear off quickly, professional-grade ceramic coatings like XPEL Fusion can last for years, preserving your vehicle’s gloss and making maintenance easier.

Are ceramic coatings right for me?
Ceramic coatings are no longer only for paint, they can also be applied to a vehicle’s windows, wheels/calipers, even leather upholstery. They’re an ideal choice for new cars, locking in that factory-fresh look for years. Older vehicles can benefit too, but may first require professional paint correction to ensure the surface is flawless before sealing it. Whether you want to protect against Ottawa’s harsh winters, make cleaning easier, or enhance your vehicle’s appearance, a ceramic coating might be exactly what you were looking for.
What areas of my vehicle can be protected with a ceramic coating?
Ceramic coatings are traditionally for paint, however they can be applied to multiple surfaces for complete automotive protection. From keeping your paint glossy or shielded against environmental damage, to making glass clearer and preventing brake dust from bonding to your wheels, ceramic coatings offer benefits everywhere you look. They can even protect interior leathers from stains and fading. Let’s break down each area so you can see how ceramic protection works across your entire vehicle.

Painted surfaces
The most common use for ceramic coatings is to protect your vehicle’s painted surfaces. When professionally applied, your ceramic coating creates a long lasting hydrophobic layer that actively repels water, resists environmental contaminants, and improves the appearance of your paint. This helps maintain a showroom look while reducing the need for frequent cleaning, waxing or polishing.

Glass surfaces
Ceramic coatings can also be applied to windows and other glass surfaces, improving visibility and safety in poor weather conditions. With a ceramic coating you can watch the rain bead up and roll away, clearing your windshield faster, preventing water spots, and making it harder for dirt, bug acids, pollens or ice to stick to it.

Wheels & calipers
Brake dust, road grime, and tar can quickly dull the appearance of your wheels and calipers. Your ceramic coating provides a barrier, preventing contaminants from bonding to the surface. This not only keeps your wheels cleaner, but also makes maintenance easier. Most buildup washes away with minimal effort.

Upholstery, leathers & trims
Ceramic coatings aren’t only for paint or glass, interior upholstery, leathers and plastic trimming can also be protected. The coating adds a bonded layer, capable of resisting spills, stains, and UV damage, so your interior stays cleaner and fades less over time. This is especially valuable for Uber & Lyft drivers or vehicles with light coloured interiors.
What if I already have paint protection film installed?
If your vehicle already has PPF, a ceramic coating can take your protection and appearance to the next level. Modern formulas are specifically engineered to bond with PPF, enhancing its hydrophobic properties, making cleaning easier, and preserving the film’s clarity or finish. Whether your PPF is a high-gloss clear or a sleek matte/stealth finish, there’s a ceramic coating option designed to complement and protect it for years to come.

What are the benefits of ceramic coatings?
Ceramic coatings are more than a glossy finish, they provide long term, high-performance protection for your vehicle’s surfaces. By creating a durable, invisible layer over paint, glass, wheels, and interior materials, your ceramic coating will preserve your car’s appearance, making maintenance effortless. From resisting water and environmental contaminants to enhancing depth and clarity, these coatings are an investment in both your vehicle’s look and long-term value.

Protection against the elements
From UV rays to acid rain, road salt to bird droppings, your ceramic coating bonds to surfaces, forming a protective barrier that shields your vehicle from harsh environmental contaminants.
Added depth, improved shine and surface clarity
Whether on painted surfaces, PPF, or your windshield, your ceramic coating enhances colour vibrancy and clarity. Gloss finishes appear deeper and richer, while matte finishes maintain their smooth, even appearance without any additional sheen.
Easy cleaning & maintenance
With a slick, non-stick ceramic coated surface, contaminants have a hard time sticking around. Routine maintenance like washing takes less time, requires less scrubbing, and is required less often.

Aftercare & maintenance for your ceramic coating
After receiving a paint correction service and/or ceramic coating such as XPEL FUSION PLUS it is important to take a proactive role in maintaining the pristine aesthetic condition of your vehicle. Ceramic Coated vehicles are much easier to maintain, especially since you will not need to frequently clay, polish, or wax the paint in order to keep it protected from the elements. However, it is important to note that no ceramic coating is bullet proof and the finish will begin to degrade if neglected or improperly cared for.

Your ceramic coating is a long-term investment, here’s how to preserve its performance:
1. Allow Full Cure
After your ceramic coating is applied, it needs time to properly bond to the surface. Typically, the curing period takes at least 72 hours, though humidity and temperature can make it longer. While curing, avoid washing your vehicle, exposing it to heavy rain, or parking under trees where sap or bird droppings may fall. The first few days are critical for ensuring maximum bond, so treat the coated surface with care.
2. Gentle, Regular Cleaning
Routine cleaning helps maintain the coating’s gloss and hydrophobic properties. Use only pH-neutral soaps or XPEL products, with a soft microfibre mitt or wash towel. Avoid harsh soaps and automated car washes that come into contact with your vehicle, to avoid leaving swirl marks or reducing the coating’s slickness. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean, microfibre towel to prevent water spots.
3. Avoid Harsh or DIY Wax Products
A fresh coating eliminates the need for traditional wax and sealants. In fact, applying them will only interfere with the coating’s self-cleaning and hydrophobic features. Likewise, avoid any chemicals or polishes unless specifically recommended by XPEL. Maintain your finish with XPEL-approved aftercare products like Ceramic Boost, which has been specifically designed to complement your coating.
4. Maintain Hydrophobic Performance
Over time, environmental exposure will reduce the water-beading effect that makes ceramic coatings so appealing. To refresh Goldwing recommends applying XPEL Ceramic Boost every 3–6 months or as needed. Boost is a spray-on product for rejuvenating the slick, glossy feel and restoring hydrophobic behaviour.
5. Remove Contaminants Quickly
Even with your ceramic coating, contaminants like bird droppings, tree sap, tar, and hard water spots should be removed right away. They’re capable of etch the coating if left for too long, especially in hot weather. Use a soft microfibre towel for spot cleaning between washes. Never scrub aggressively to avoid micro-scratches.
6. Certified Annual Inspection
To keep your warranty valid and ensure the coating performs, schedule an annual inspection with our installers. They’ll check for any areas that need attention and perform any necessary maintenance, if required. The last step in protecting your investment to guaranteeing your coating continues to perform as designed for the full warranty term.

Great place to deal with staff is beyond reproach, I dealt with Nik and Peter they know what they are talking about and back it up with quality jobs. The difference between an ordinary job an a stellar one comes from material and installation know how and they have both. They have the facilities to get the job done well and are planning expansion at their location. I brought them my 2024 Mustang GT premium convertible and could not be happier (no connection to this business just very impressed with the result)

Frequently Asked Questions,
How long does a ceramic coating last?
When professionally applied, a ceramic coating can last anywhere from 2 to 7 years, depending on the quality of the product and how well it’s maintained. With regular washing and proper aftercare, you can expect long-term protection and shine from XPEL FUSION PLUS, far outperforming traditional waxes and sealants.
Can ceramic coating be applied to an older vehicle?
Yes, but the paint must be in good condition. For older vehicles, paint correction is typically required before applying a ceramic coating. This process removes swirl marks, oxidation, and minor imperfections, ensuring the coating bonds properly and delivers a proper finish. Want to learn more about our paint correction services?
Do I still need to wash my car if it has a ceramic coating?
Absolutely. Your ceramic coatings will make cleaning much easier thanks to its hydrophobic properties, unfortunately a coating doesn’t eliminate the need for washing. Dirt and contaminants will still accumulate, they just won’t bond as easily, so you’ll spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying a spotless car.
Can ceramic coating be applied over paint protection film (PPF)?
Yes! In fact we recommend it. XPEL FUSION PLUS has been specifically engineered to work with XPEL Paint Protection Film. This combination provides the ultimate in paint protection and maintenance. At Goldwing we offer specific formulas optimized for both gloss and satin/matte finishes.
What’s the difference bet ween ceramic coating and wax or sealants?
Your ceramic coatings provides a level of long-term protection that traditional waxes and sealants just can’t compete with. Wax might only last a few weeks and sealants, maybe a few months. A ceramic coatings bonds to your paint on a molecular level, offering years of protection, improving gloss or satin finish, and resisting environmental contamination.
