Ottawa’s Paint Correction Experts

For the last 30 years, we’ve earned Ottawa’s trust by helping to protect and perfect a wide range of everyday to luxury vehicles. We started out as a traditional detailing shop, growing into a specialized operation. Today, our team delivers expert level paint correction and ceramic coating services, restoring and preserving factory finishes to a standard beyond showroom quality. As Ottawa’s paint correction experts, we combine decades of experience with the latest techniques and technology to bring out full depth, clarity, and brilliance in your paint.

What is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is a professional multi-step detailing process that restores and rejuvenates a vehicle’s paint by safely removing imperfections from the clear coat. Using precision polishing machines and specialized compounds, technicians eliminate visible defects such as swirl marks, fine scratches, oxidation, water spots, and light etching caused by improper washing or environmental exposure.

At Goldwing, we take a tailored approach depending on your vehicle, the condition of your paint and your individual needs and expectations. After assessing your needs, we’ll remove defects in the top layer of paint with compounds and polishing machines to produce a more desired look or finish.

This process is the recommended method for the removal of swirl marks, scuffs, hard-water marks, etching, fading or minor scratches. Take a look at the images below for a better idea of the kind of scratches and scuffs you can fix.

What Problems Will Paint Correction Fix?

The paint correction process will remove many of the imperfections that build up on your vehicle’s paint. Everyday washing, automatic car washes, environmental contaminants, and regular driving will leave visible marks in your clear coat.

Common issues improved with paint correction include:

  • Swirl marks from improper washing or contact.
  • Fine scratches and scuff marks.
  • Water spot etching
  • Oxidation and dull paint
  • Haze or holograms from poor polishing

By reworking your clear coat with machine polishers, any defects will be significantly reduced if not removed entirely. This restores clarity and depth to your paint’s finish.

Key Benefits of the Paint Correction Process

Yes, it makes your car look better. However, it’s also about restoring the true quality and clarity of your paintwork. Removing imperfections like swirl marks, scratches, and oxidation brings back the depth, smoothness, and reflection of a new car. Whether you’re putting some life back in your daily driver or preparing to sell, a professional paint correction delivers results that go beyond a simple wash and wax. Below are some of the key benefits you can expect from Goldwing.

Clean Paint

Over the years, your vehicle’s paint clear coat picks up scratches, contaminates, and stains. Our service removes even the deepest scratches by working a series of compounds, cutting agents, and polishes to literally roll back the odometer on your paint!

Mirror-like Finish

We leave your vehicle looking better than it did in the showroom. Even faded and worn paint will come out of our bays looking great. Fall back in love with your vehicle as this finish is worth protecting for years to come!

Higher Resale Value

Significantly increases your vehicle’s resale value by restoring its original gloss and removing visible paint defects, helping it look newer, better maintained, and more appealing to potential buyers.

Is Paint Correction Right For Your Vehicle?

Paint correction is ideal for vehicles that have visible swirl marks, scratches, or dull paint. Many owners choose this service when they want their vehicle to look its best again or before applying long term paint protection.

Paint correction may be right for you if:

  • Your paint has swirl marks from drive through car washes.
  • Your paint is looking dull or lacking depth.
  • You see small scratches in direct sunlight.
  • You are preparing your vehicle for sale or trade in.
  • You want paint protection film or a ceramic coating.

Vehicles with heavy damage may require further repair or repainting.

Does Paint Correction Remove All the Scratches?

Although not every defect, like deep scratches and stone chips, can be removed safely (without removing too much of the clear coat), the average vehicle can expect to see significant improvements in appearance and shine. At Goldwing, we aim to restore your paint’s finish to a ‘like new’ condition. As close to, or better than the original factory finish. Our skilled technicians have decades of experience detailing everything from every day commuter to one of a kind luxury vehicles.

Whether it’s a deep scratch or a severe stain, our experts will asses the condition of your paint and recommend only the appropriate means to minimize the paint damage, if not remove it completely. Our trained technicians will addresses your entire vehicle, with special attention given to the most visibly damaged areas of your vehicle.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Depending on the condition of your paint, the process can take anywhere from 3 hours for a light polish to 40+ hours for a show car or concourse wet sand and polish. It is common for the process to be categorized into stages or steps. Each step requiring more time to complete. For many clients, paint correction is only one of the services being provided. This approximate timeline does not consider any time needed to complete additional services like paint protection film or ceramic coatings.

At Goldwing, our tailored approach is dependent on your specific vehicle, the condition of your paint and your individual needs and expectations. Once our detailers have assessed your vehicle, we can provide you with an accurate quote and timeline.

How Much Does it Cost? Factors Effecting Pricing.

The cost of paint correction varies depending on your paint’s condition and your desired level of improvement. Some vehicles only need a light polishing, while others require multi-stage correction by an experienced detailer to safely remove deep imperfections.

After inspecting your vehicle, our team will recommend the appropriate level of correction based on your goals and the condition of your paint.

Factors Affecting Pricing Include,

  • Vehicle Size & Type: Larger vehicles have more surface area, requiring more time and materials.
  • Paint Condition: Heavily oxidized, scratched, or swirled surfaces take longer to correct.
  • Level of Correction Needed: A one-step polish enhances gloss, while multi-stage correction removes deeper defects.
  • Paint Hardness & Type: Different manufacturers use varying clear coat formulations, dictating how easy defects can be removed.
  • Previous Paint Work or Coatings: Old wax, sealants, or ceramic coatings need to be removed before the process can begin.
  • Desired Finish and Expectations: The level of perfection you’re looking for can impact timing and pricing.

Each project is tailored to meet your individual expectations, ensuring you only pay for the services you actually needs.

Why choose Goldwing to correct your paint?

A high quality paint correction requires a high level of training, experience, and skill combined with industry knowledge. Collectively, Goldwing has more than 50 years of combined paint correction experience. We’ve corrected the paint on thousands of cars over the years, even overseeing the paint correction prep service for the International Auto Show across Canada from 1996-2001.

For a long time, we’ve been held as the Gold Standard in Ottawa, especially when it comes to auto detailing. Since touching our first buffers in the early 1990’s, championed through an array of unique requests and multiple International Auto Show circuits. We’ve worked hard, developing a paint correction platform, specific to the type of damage, and severity of the damage done to your paint. Our paint correction experts use only proven industry-leading equipment and techniques, operating at a level that places us in a premium paint correction and paint protection category.

Reasons to Choose Goldwing,

  • Family owned and operated
  • 30+ years of experience
  • Dedicated detailing bays
  • Highly skilled professional detailers
  • Highest standard of workmanship

Our Detailing Department is Special to Us,

Have you seen our shop and showroom? We love to talk about our clean, dedicated service bays for paint protection, window tinting, and detailing, with additional bays for our wheel and tire technicians. This is to minimize cross contamination from air-born particles and debris. Every service we provide, starts with a clean preparation process done in a clean service bay.

Nothing brings more defects to light than the sun. To mimic direct natural sunlight, our detailing bays are fitted with LED floodlights, pointed in all directions. This helps our team accurately visualize any defects in your paint and asses the level of correction needed. Occasionally, when providing an estimate, we’ll actually bring your vehicle into one of our bays, for a thorough examination.

When choosing your preferred shop, consider it’s reputation and level of workmanship. In the hands of an inexperienced technician, a machine polisher can do more harm then good, potentially damaging your paint’s clear coat, leaving behind unsightly swirl marks and holograms or exposing metal areas to potential corrosion.

At Goldwing we know what we’re doing, and it shows. All of our detailers are professionally trained with years of experience. They take pride in their work, pampering your vehicle as if it were their own.

Now That Your Paint is Perfect, Keep it That Way

Your paint is delicate. Even an otherwise gentle hand washing can leave behind minor scratches and swirls in the clear coat of un-protected paint. Protecting your perfect finish is equally as important as the paint correction service itself. Temporary measures like waxes and sealants require lots of time and man hours to maintain, plus they wear off fast. Why settle for mediocre protection when there are semi-permanent solutions available. A paint correction service is often done in preparation for other paint protection options like PPF and/or ceramic coatings.

Tips for Maintaining Your Paint,

  • Use ONLY single use microfibre cloths when cleaning and drying your paint.
  • Avoid exposure to environmental elements and contaminants.
  • Cover all high impact areas with paint protection film.
  • Professional ceramic coating application (can be done over PPF).
  • Book your follow up appointment for ceramic coating boost.

After Paint Correction, What Comes Next?

Paint correction is considered a stand alone service, however many owners want to preserve that perfect finish for as long as possible. It’s very common to see a paint correction take place before installing paint protection film or applying a ceramic coating. For more information about either service check out the links below.

We include a professional one step paint correction before all ceramic coating applications!

Goldwing staff went above and beyond to help us find the right bolts for our winter tires, and the hub rings to go with them. Our service advisor was super knowledgeable, and shared a bunch of information with us that we otherwise would not have known. He was kind, patient, funny, and overall very pleasant to deal with. We had a great experience as customers here, and will definitely be making this our first stop shop for our vehicles from now on. Thank you Goldwing Autocare!

Frequently Asked Questions,

Is paint correction the same as polishing?

No, paint correction is not the same as polishing. Paint correction is a complex, more thorough process that includes polishing, however polishing is only a small part of the entire process. Paint correction involves using aggressive compounds, tools and machines to remove deeper defects, while polishing uses gentle abrasives to remove lighter imperfections. Both level and smooth the clear coat to improve shine and clarity.

What do they do in a paint correction?

A paint correction involves using machine polishers and abrasive compounds to safely remove surface defects like scratches, swirl marks, and oxidation from a vehicle’s clear coat. The process includes washing, decontaminating, and polishing the paint in stages to restore a deep, reflective gloss, often sealed with paint protection film or ceramic coating for longer lasting protection.

Does paint correction remove clear coat?

Yes, paint correction removes a microscopic layer of the clear coat, but only enough to safely eliminate defects. During the process, a trained detailer uses abrasive compounds and machine polishers to level imperfections like swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation. This microscopic removal restores clarity and shine without compromising your paint. To ensure the safety of your paint, a paint thickness gauge is used to measure the clear coat before and during correction, preserving the protective layer. When done properly, paint correction extends the life and appearance of your clear coat rather than damaging it.

What products are used for the process?

We only use professional grade auto detailing solutions and compounds engineered and tested by XPEL, for use with other products like ceramic coatings and paint protection film.
