Window tinting film is a water-mounted product, meaning it could take up to 2 weeks to completely dry.

During this drying period it is completely normal to see small water bubbles and/or a light cloudiness or haze in the film. Do not roll the newly tinted windows down for a minimum of 5 days after your window tint has been installed.

After your window tint is installed, it will need time to properly cure.

The curing process allows the adhesive layers of the film to bond with the surface of the glass, keeping the film smooth, clear, and bubble-free. Temperature and humidity levels affect the duration of the curing process, but most installations will completely cure within 5 to 30 days.

1. Only Use Cleaners Formulated for Use With Tint Film

Always use ammonia-free, pH-neutral cleaners specifically formulated for tinted windows. Your favourite household glass cleaners most likely contain ammonia (or similar abrasive), which has proven to degrade a film’s colour and adhesive. To be safe, choose products labeled as “tint-safe” or ask somebody from our knowledgable sales team for help.

2. Choose the Right Cloth and Material

Next, make sure to avoid using cloths made from abrasive materials or paper towels, newspaper, or things like scrub brushes, when cleaning your tinted windows. These can scratch the film’s surface or leave behind fibres. Instead, use a clean microfibre cloth, soft cotton towel, or a dedicated glass-cleaning cloth. To avoid any costly mistakes, keep a separate cloth to use for your tinted windows, avoiding any potential cross-contaminations from other surfaces or products.

3. Spray Onto Your Cloth, Not Your Window

For the best result, clean your tinted windows every few weeks, or more often if you live in a dusty, high-traffic environment.

Common Aftercare Mistakes to Avoid

Even with high-quality window tint, improper aftercare for tinted windows can shorten its lifespan or cause visible damage. To protect your investment and keep your tint looking factory-fresh, it’s important to avoid these common mistakes, especially in the first few weeks after installation.

Rolling down your windows too soon: Rolling down your windows before they finish curing, especially within the first 3 to 5 days, causes the edges of the tint to peel or shift out of place. Make sure anyone who drives, or rides in the vehicle knows not to roll the windows down for any reason.

Using ammonia-based or harsh cleaners: One of the most common causes of damaged tint is from cleaning it with ammonia based cleaners like Windex or Zep. Ammonia-based cleaners eat at the adhesive layer, causing the film to discolour, bubble, or peel over time. Cleaning too soon after installation: Trying to clean your windows before the film has completely cured is another big mistake. If it’s not possible to stay parked in the shade, try using a front window sunshade to minimize UV exposure and interior heat buildup.

Be Cautious with Ice and Snow
